LANDSCAPING AND PLANTING TIPS
Planning your landscape is not an easy task. Ask yourself some questions: is it just for beauty, is it to improve the environment, is it for shade or windbreak, is it for fuel or lumber? Which ever your reason have fun and enjoy being outside.

Please consider planting trees, shrubs and vines that provide food as well as shelter for birds and wildlife. You will be able to enjoy the beauty you have created plus the natural beauty and song from the birds, butterflies and wildlife.

• Care of Trees Upon Arrival
Open package immediately and moisten. Heel-in if you are not planting the trees right away. This means digging a trench to the depth of the roots, untying the trees and spreading them out in the trench. Dig the hole or trench big enough to give the roots lots of room. Well rotted compost is the best fertilizer to mix with the soil at this time. Then water generously and place the soil over the roots and pack firmly. Remember to water frequently after planting. • Spring Planting
Spring is an excellent time to plant trees and shrubs. Bareroot stock should be planted early in the Spring. Add compost to your soil, this enriches your soil and helps to hold moisture. Mulching around your trees is another way to help retain moisture in the ground. You have to make sure that you water your trees frequently the first year after transplanting.

• Summer Planting
Summer planting is for potted and per-balled trees and shrubs. Plant in evenings or on cloudy days. The same thing again compost added to the soil, watering more frequently and mulching around your plants.

• Fall Planting
Fall a perfect time to plant also. The tree or shrub is transplanted when it is totally dormant not when it is about to break bud. Planted properly the plant is ready for Spring weather. Compost, watering, mulching and protection from rodents are the key components to successful Fall planting. When Spring arrives, you can enjoy your trees and shrubs while you tend to your flower beds. Remember water is the main nutrient for your newly planted trees and shrubs.
