2005 February 3 - The Nehemiah Hundley Register has been
completely regenerated for the first time since it was posted a year
ago. Since the file was getting so large I broke the register up into
separate files for each child of Nehemiah.
2005 January 11 - We are indebted to Gennis Gonzalez
for providing us with transcriptions of letters from her cousin Bertha
(HUNDLEY) PICKERING which indicate that Deletha Ann (HUNDLEY) (TUCKER)
(ATWOOD) WILSON and Calvin George HUNDLEY who were residents of Campton
Twp., Kane Co., Illinois in 1850 were siblings. Gennis has also supplied
copies of letters from John P. HUNDLEY dated 1969 and 1971 indicating
that Deletha Wilson, Elizabeth Gage and Luther Hundley were known to be
siblings to his ancestor John R. Hundley.
2005 January 10 - A big thank you to Pat Hornick
of the Elgin Genealogical Society in Elgin, Illinois for supplying us
with the obituary for Angeline (HUNDLEY) (POWELL) GARVIN who died at
Elgin on 8 March 1901.
2005 January 8 - A special thanks to Mark Rain for
further contributions concerning information on the descendants of Sarah
Elizabeth (HUNDLEY) RYAN.
2004 December 15 - After a lot of searching thru the Index to
the Ohio Civil War Roster for Nehemiah Hundley, son of Austin, who
married first Amazetta Humphrey, then Bettie Crew and lived in Kanawha
County, Kathy O. Smith-Hundley finally found the military record
for him. Looking thru the names for the 47th Regiment of Infantry, Co
H, he was discovered - the only HUNTLEY -- and it was "Steak" as
rhymes with "Stape" and "Slape". (His middle name was actually Staples,
but he was referred to as Slape and Stape in various other records.)
According to the roster, he enlisted at age 18 on Sept 2, 1862, and
mustered out on May 1, 1865 at expiration of term of service (3 years).
Kathy knew from the National Archives' Union Pension cards what unit he
was in, and that he was wounded, for which he (and later widow Bettie)
were pensioned.
