First Generation

1.     Langsdon HUNDLEY was born about 1793 in Albemarle, Virginia. He died after 1831 when his father died.

Langsdon married Polly before 1832.

   The War of 1812 service record - Langsdon Hundley, Co. H, 7th Grays, under Cpt. John Rothwell's Co., Private, enlisted 27 Aug to Oct 1814, service started Aug. 30, detailed Sept 6 to work at armory at Camp Carters. Dec 28, 1814 absent, detailed to work in Armory in Richmond. "Has by some means not known got home and has been there during whole time embraced by this muster roll of Oct 29-28 Dec 1814" Chatham p. 1052.

   In the 1820 census for - Have not located.

 

   In the 1830 census at [Could not locate in indexes. Checked all Hundley soundex for the whole country, checked all Lang Langsdon, Langsden, Langston, Longston etc.] Since son Peter was born in Virginia in 1832 he should be there although North Carolina may be a possibility since grandson Henry ref. a parent born there and Valentine in 1855 indicates that some of his siblings were residing in North Carolina.

 

(Is it possible that he was Langsdon Meredith HUNDLEY and went by Meredith after he deserted)

 

 In the 1860 census for Lewisburg PO, Greenbrier, Virginia, p. 22, Meredith Hunley, 63 is residing with Rhoda Neal, 48 and her son, William A., 17. Also with them are Jesse Cooper, 33, a day laborer, Sarah Knapp, 30 a domestic and Ann S. Benson, 14. They are next to the family of Alex McClung and Henry Sipps. Who is this Meredith?

 

Langsdon and Polly had the following children:

2.     Peter Meredith HUNDLEY (Langsdon) was born about 1832 in Virginia. He died after 1895 in Bedford, Virginia.

Peter married (1) Sarah A. DICKERSON in Dec 1849 in Roanoke, Virginia. Sarah died before 1879.

   In the 1870 census at Chamblissburg, Bedford, Virginia, p. 84, Peter "Hanly", age 40, farm laborer born Virginia with wife, Sarah, 43 and children, Mary E., 20, William H., 14, James W., 13, John, 12, Jemima, 9, Robert L., 8, Charles, 8, Joseph P., 1 and Sarah R., 1.

 

Peter and Sarah had the following children:

                3    M         i.    William Henry HUNLEY was born 2 May 1853 in Bedford, Virginia.

William married Mary.

   In the 1880 census index for Lead Mines, Wythe, Virginia, p. 448D, is Henry HUNLEY (given in index as "Berry" 22, Works in Lead Mines, father born NC, mother born VA with wife, Mary, 19, Keeps house. With him is his brother, James, 24, born Virginia also Works in Lead Mines but gives both parents born Virginia. With him is his wife, Elizabeth, 25, born Virginia, Helps in House and their daughter, Mary, 2 born Virginia.

                8    F         vi.    Jemima HUNLEY was born about 1861 in Virginia.

 In the 1880 census for Bonbrook, Franklin, Virginia, p. 40D, Jamima C. Hunley, 19, born Virginia, servant in home of Harrison W. Mead, 39 with wife, Julia, 25 and 3 children and a Louise Kembleton, 40, servant

              10    M     viii.    Robert L. HUNLEY was born about 1865 in Bedford, Virginia.

 In the 1880 census for Rocky Mount, Franklin, Virginia, p. 172B, Robert Hundley, 15, born Virginia, laborer with the family of John Z. Pugh, 31 and wife, Louisa, 31 and their4 children and a Betty Blankenship, cousin of John.

              11    M        ix.    Joseph Peter HUNLEY was born 1869 in Bedford, Virginia.

Joseph married Elizabeth SINKL "Betty" on 25 Dec 1891 in Franklin Co., Virginia.

 In the 1880 census for Rocky Mount, Franklin, Virginia, p. 173C, John G. Hundley, 22, born Virginia, Farmer with wife, Locky A., 28 and children, Sally L., 8 M, daughter and Joseph P., 9 and John H., 4. (both brothers)

Peter also married (2) Nancy WITT on 4 Sep 1879. Nancy died before 1884.

Peter also married (3) Martha V. on 26 Jun 1884 in Virginia. Martha was born about 1845 in Virginia.

 In the 1880 census for Charlemont, Bedford, Virginia, p. 75C, B. D. Mitchell, 50, Farmer born Virginia with wife, Martha V., 35, born Virginia and children, Mary V., 20, Sarah M., 18, Wm. E., 13, Walter C., 10, Ella May, 8, Frank, 6, Bessie, 3 and Lizzie, 10M.

Third Generation

4.     James Whitfield HUNLEY (Peter Meredith, Langsdon) was born 7 Mar 1855 in Bedford, Virginia.

James married Emily Elizabeth WEAVER on 6 Apr 1876 in Roanoke, Virginia.

   In the 1880 census index for Lead Mines, Wythe, Virginia, p. 448D, is Henry HUNLEY (given in index as "Berry" 22, Works in Lead Mines, father born NC, mother born VA with wife, Mary, 19, Keeps house. With him is his brother, James, 24, born Virginia also Works in Lead Mines but gives both parents born Virginia. With him is his wife, Elizabeth, 25, born Virginia, Helps in House and their daughter, Mary, 2 born Virginia.

 

James and Emily had the following children:

5.     John G. HUNLEY (Peter Meredith, Langsdon) was born 1857/1858 in Bedford, Virginia. He died after 1880.

John married Lockey A. WEAVER on 5 Nov 1876 in Franklin Co., Virginia. Lockey was born about 1852 in Virginia. She died after 1880.
