1. Martha HUNDLEY "Patsy" was born about 1804 in Albemarle, Virginia. She died 27 May 1864 in Bracken, Kentucky. She is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Pendleton, Kentucky. Her will was written 16 May 1864 (see below).
Patsy married William Abner GILLESPIE on 15 Aug 1822 in Albemarle, Virginia. William was born about 1790 in Virginia. He died 4 June 1860 in Pendleton, Kentucky.

"The last will and testament of Martha Gillispie of the County of Bracken and State of Kentucky. I Martha Gillispie considering the uncertainty of this mortal life . . .First, I give and bequeath to my youngest son, Lewis Cass Gillispie a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the County of Bracken and State of Kentucky ...lying on the waters of Kincaide Creek. . .also a yearling colt, an iron gray colt. I want my son Abner Gillispie to take charge of my bay ginny mare . .I also bequeath to my daughter Susan Fields one clock. . .I also want all the balance of my property to be sold including my tobacco and after my debts are paid, I want the balance ...for my son Lewis Cass Gillispie's benefit. I then bequeath to my son L. V. Gillispie one dollar, my son Henry Gillispie one dollar, my daughter Catharine Bryant one dollar, my son Wm Gillispie one dollar, my son Abner Gillispie one dollar, my son Ira Gillispie one dollar, my son Tira Gillispie one dollar, my son John Gillispie one dollar, my son Andrew one dollar, my son William H. William was previously married on 24 Dec 1806 to Mary Owens and had at least 3 children by her; Abner, William and Henry. Henry married Martha's younger sister, Mildred Jane Hundley.

Karen Scales gives that William was the father of Henry, husband of his wife's sister, Mildred Jane. Henry was a son by William and first wife, Mary.
In the 1820 census for Albemarle, Virginia is a Wm. Gillaspie. Appears to be too old but could be father of William who married Martha.
In the 1830 census at Virginia - Not a good fit for the William Gillespie at Augusta, p. 80 He is only age 20-30
There are 6 other William Gillespies in VA in 1830 that need to be checked. They are at Alleghany, Bath, Fluvanna, Mason, Randolph and Rockbridge Counties.
In the 1840 census at the Southern District, Bracken, Kentucky, p. 380 is William Gillespie with 12 members in the family. He is age 50-60 (good fit) and his wife, Patsy is 40-50 (this would put her birth before Nehemiah S. which then fits with listing in the pension - how does this fit with 1810 census?) 2 boys under 5, 1 boy 10-15, 3 boys 15-20, 3 girls 10-15, 1 girl 15-20. [Match these]
In the 1850 census at the First District, Pendleton Co., Kentucky, p. 377 is William Gillaspy, 60, farmer, born Virginia with wife, Martha, 42 born Virginia and children, Milly Ann, 18, born Virginia, and Susan M., 16, Andrew J., 14, William H., 12, Thomas, 10, Sarah E., 8 and Lewis C., 1 all born Kentucky. Also in the 1850 census at Bracken, Kentucky, p. 393, is Abner Gillespie, 28, Farmer born Virginia with Wife, Delilah, 28 born Kentucky and children, Ellen, 10, William E., 8, Marshall, 6, John, 3 and Nancy, 2. This is likely a child of William by first wife, Mary.
In the 1860 census at Pendleton, Kentucky, Martha Galaspie, 58, born Virginia, farmer, with children Wm., 25, Farm Work, Sally, 18, Lewis C., 12. all born Kentucky. They are next to Milly A. Candy, 28 and her husband, John, 28 and children, Martha J., 6, John, 4, Elizabeth. 2, and Chas. D., 1 all born Kentucky. It appears that Martha's husband died before 1860.

She gives that 9 of her 14 children are still living. They are living with their son Menzie (Menus), age 29 married 8 years to Jessie, 25. Her 3 children all living are Lucy, 6, Noah, 4 and Luna, 1. Menzie is a farmer.

In the 1900 census for Berlin, Bracken, Kentucky, John Gillispie, 70, born Virginia, with wife Sarah E., 69, born Kentucky and daughter Ninnie L., 24 born Kentucky. With them are grand daughter Stella Wadkins, 18 and Hannah Wadkins, 10 ( sic July 1899 - something wrong here. Maybe Hannah only 1 and actually a daughter of Stella?) Stella daughter of daughter Caroline Gillespie Wadkins.

(He may have been named after the popular Civil War Major General and politician, George Brinton McCLELLAN who ran against Lincoln in 1864 in the Presidential race. This may allude to the families political leanings. McClellan wanted to negotiate a peace with the Confederacy. Over 200 George B.
